My dearest and best friend, Ron Lief, albeit for the past 6 years, had fought a valiant battle for the past two months of his life. He died in the early morning hour at 4:17 a.m. on Monday, July 29th, 2019.
Through 5 hospitalizations and 2 rehabs, I was with him each day and night, and then 24/7 while he was under hospice care, until he died. I don't believe he was in any pain as he quietly passed away in his sleep.
We were each other's only family. It was just us, a forever friendship-turned-into-family, and he became like a father to me.
When I reflect on so many things that were unique and remarkable about Ron, I think of his smile and bright blue eyes. Ron had a beautiful smile! When he smiled his face lit up brightly, and to see, felt like walking outside onto a warm, sunny day! Ron's awesome smile and blue eyes were, almost always, the very first thing anyone meeting Ron, commented.
Ron loved books. Yet, among many personal accomplishments Ron attained in his lifetime, in the latter part of 2018, he read Tolstoy's "War and Peace", cover to cover, in its entirety. It took him a good while to complete this very lengthy novel, but he did it! I was so very happy for him that he was able to achieve this goal, in spite of his progressing dementia. And all the more so very proud of him for it!
Ron was a great man, and a good man, and loved by so many. As L. Frank Baum wrote, in his book, The Wizard of Oz, "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others." With that said, Ron, you will be dearly missed and forever loved.
As my best friend, and like a father to me, I thank you for all of the love you gave me.
I miss you with all of my heart; yet, I know you are at peace now, and celebrating your new life, above.
Keep on singing and dancing -- and smiling, my loving Ron!

Ron was truly a “Renaissance man.” He was kind, warm, smart, funny and a true gentleman. I had not seen him in a few years but my memories of him do not dim with time. Ron will be missed by many but his legacy of kindness will last for ages. God Bless.

Ron was always a man full of energy. Though I didn't know him for very long, he was always positive and had a smile on his face. He would crack a joke here and there, and would help spread the joy. He'd put a smile on my face even when I had tough days.
He will be greatly missed.

Our dear friend and long time neighbor will be missed. Spent many a time chatting with him while we were working in our yards. Also kidded him about all the books he read and the classical music he was fond of. Shared "old movies" with him and just enjoyed his company. Never once did he mention he had been in the service. It was a surprise! Be with God, Ron Leif. You will not be forgotten.
