Obituary of John P. Hanewich

John P. Hanewich Sr. passed away on Saturday January 10, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital Newburgh, NY. He was 52 years old. The son of the late Joseph and Jean Baxter Hanewich John was born at St. Luke’s Hospital Newburgh, New York. John was married to Geraldine “Gigi” Greene. John was the Past President for the Coldenham Fire Co., current president for the The Company of Fifers and Drummers (Conneticut), Drum Major of the Civil War Troopers, Coldenhams delegate for the Hudson Valley Volunteer Fire Association Red Vests, as well as being a member of the Coldenham and Black River Fife and Drum Corps. John was a remarkable man who lived his life for his family and community. He was dedicated to inspiring the younger generation in the fife and drum world and fire department as well. He was always ready to give a hug or a hand to someone in need. He will be sorely missed by all. Survivors include his wife “Gigi” at home; son, John Hanewich Jr. at home; daughter Crystal Hanewich at home; brother Henry Hanewich and wife Irene of Accord, NY; sister Pamela Smollen and husband William of Newark, Delaware; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 13, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586 Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2014 at 1 PM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church Newburgh, New York.
