Catherine J. “Kay” “Mom Mom” Smith passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at home. She was born in Haverstraw, NY on October 31, 1925. She met the love of her life, our dad, while working at the civilian personnel office at West Point. They married in 1950. Together they raised five children. Mom was PTA president at East Coldenham, and worked school elections and registration for Valley Central for over 30 years. She was a devoted parishioner of her church, Most Precious Blood for 60 years, where she served as CYO teen advisor and served her Lord as Eucharistic Minister. She worked at J.T. Reardon Agency for 30 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John J. Smith, Sr. and her parents, Nick and Susan Gamboli. She is survived by her five children, daughters: Eileen Nichols and husband, Jim of Holland Patent, NY; Mary Ellen Felizzi and husband, Pete of Newburgh, NY; Sueann Smith and husband, Bob Gaucher of New Windsor, NY, sons: Nicholas Smith and wife, Linda of Leesburg, VA, and John Smith, Jr. and wife, Kathleen of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, and sister, Mena Matone of Stony Point, NY. Lovingly referred to Mom-Mom, she enjoyed a wonderful life devoted to her 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Known as Aunt Kay, she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 24th at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, Walden. Entombment will be in the Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550. Our Mom Gentle woman, gentle soul, faithful and devoted A confidante to all, the tie that binds; Our Mom Supportive, Understanding, Compassionate and Loving; Our Mom Blessed forever with everlasting love, our guardian Angel, Our Mom.
