Shirley entered into rest at Garnet Medical Center, Middletown, NY, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was 94 years old. Shirley was born in Walden, daughter of the late Floyd E. Kniffin and Elizabeth Watkins Kniffin. She was predeceased by Leo, her husband of 53 years, in 2001 and their son Mark in 1985.
Shirley is survived by their son Richard of Walker Valley; granddaughter Kelly and husband George Williams of Bloomingburg; grandson Craig and wife Alisa of Walden; great-grandchildren Ava Orndorff, Logan Williams, and Harper Orndorff; nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister, Dorothy.
Shirley had participated in Girls’ Drum Corps, joined the First Reformed Church of Walden, their Eendrachten, graduated from Walden High School, attended Plattsburg S.T.C., taught adult education in Walden High School, and organized several high school reunions. She was a member of Walden Star Chapter #560 for 75 years, a member and historian for the Minisink Chapter of the D.A.R., Walden Historical Society, Town of Shawangunk Woman’s Club, Walden and Walker Valley Senior Clubs, and also Vice President of Kniffin Printing Co., Inc. of Walden.
There will be no visitation, as Shirley wished, and a private service will be held at the family plot in Walker Valley Cemetery.
