Obituary of Norman W. McVey

Norman William McVey of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Maybrook & Montgomery, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Norman was born in Goshen, NY on February 25, 1943, to William Ellsworth and Hilda Blake McVey, and graduated from Maybrook High School in 1961.
Norman, a loving husband and father, was an outdoorsman who loved trout fishing, hunting, hiking and tent camping, all of which he proudly passed down to his children and grandchildren. He had a true love for dogs, especially his beloved dog Sport, was an avid gun enthusiast, truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was always good for a story or joke, and had an appreciation for music.
Norman enjoyed working for the New Haven Railroad prior to taking a job and retiring as a NY State corrections officer at Wallkill Correctional Facility, and was a member of the Fallsburg Fishing & Boating Club at Pleasure Lake.
Norman is predeceased by his parents William and Hilda, and brother-in-law, Mark O’Banks. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kathleen O’Banks McVey; his sons Patrick McVey and his fiancée Monina Chan-Galapon of Peekskill, NY; Timothy McVey and his wife Stephanie of Montgomery, NY; and Michael McVey of Hilton Head Island, SC; his daughter Shawn Neese and her fiancé Bruce Hadley of Northville, NY; grandchildren Mackenzie Walsh, Zachary Walsh and his wife Kate, Matthew McVey, Kelly McVey, Jonathan Kiernan, Erika McVey, Justin McVey, and Michael McVey and his fiancée Audrey Paulling; brothers-in-law Christopher O’Banks, John O’Banks and his wife Cindy, and Tom O’Banks and Suzie Alvarez; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 1-4 PM on Saturday, December 3rd at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the memorial. Memorial contributions may be made to the NRA (NRA.org) or the Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden, NY 12586.
