Joan I. Thomas of New Windsor, NY passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on November 30, 2021. The daughter of Arthur and Charlotte Swenson Johnson, she was born on December 12, 1943 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was 77 years old. Joan loved to play cards, bake, sew, crochet, and watch the Hallmark Movie Channel.
Survivors are her son, Terry Bruce and his wife, Georgene; daughters: Julia Sommers and her husband, Christopher, Sr., Cathy Thomas and her companion Bob Hopper; sisters: Ruth Brooks and her husband, Jerry of Pueblo West, Col., Mary Werring and her husband, Ken of North Port, FL, Lois Liebich and her husband, Dennis of North Port, FL.; brother, Charles Johnson and his wife,
Rita of Venice, FL.; grandchildren: Christopher Sommers Jr. and wife, Christine, Michael Sommers and wife, Camila, Nicole Sommers, Courtney Ostrander, Nicholas Bruce and Amanda Bruce; 1 great grandchild due in January 2022, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 2-3 pm on Saturday, December 18th at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the visitation at 3 pm with the Rev Ernst Mossl of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation will be in the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh.
