Obituary of Mary R. Staples

Our beloved mom, Mary R. “Babe” Staples, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 7, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary (Babe) was born on December 27, 1929 in Maybrook, NY to the late Mary and Alfonso Striano. She was 91 years old. Mary retired for First Student Bus Company as a bus driver, working for 25 years into her 80’s. Mary was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Edward Staples and her sister, Lucille Thorp (Chickie). She is survived by her devoted sons: Edward Staples, Jr. of Maybrook, Jerry Staples and his wife, Donna of Maybrook, and Thomas Staples and his wife, Kathy of Middletown; daughter, Yvonne Goldman and her husband, Philip of Mt. Hope; 10 loving grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties for the care given to their mother. A visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Monday, September 13th at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 14th at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montgomery, NY. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
