We never knew Chester but when we moved to Walden in mid-June 2016 we noticed a man sitting in his chair on the front porch who waved to us as we drove up Wait Street. We thought he had us confused with someone he knew but politely waved back. I looked forward to waving to him every time I passed his home after I realized that he cheerfully waved to those who passed his home. My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends who survive him. I'll continue to wave each time I pass his home.

My daughter Jillian loved it when Chet would wave to her every time she drove onto First St. She never met him but he always made her smile. Jillian and I are very sorry for your loss. Chet will be missed.

Upon hearing this news my heart wept and I send my condolences to all of his family and his beautiful wife during these times.. for Chet had always been a mentor through my own childhood and to many more in our community. He was a man of strength, morals, and principle before any action he made and that strength he held was always paired with a laugh, hospitality, and a desire to enjoy life in the simplest of ways.
He will be missed dearly and never forgotten as a symbol of integrity by the many he impacted in his long life and I cannot say I'll ever be able to sit outside on a porch again without hearing his laugh and enjoying the thin air.
The world truly lost a beautiful soul this week but his spirit will never fade for the privileged ones who were able to be in his presence. So here's to you chet, you were truly one of a kind and I'm glad to of called you my family <3

My sincerest condolences to the Tenhagen Family. Chester always brought a smile to my face every time I drove by , he would wave and smile. My kids liked to stop by and say hello and sometimes bring him cake or cookies. He was a wonderful man!! He will truly be missed!!

My heart is just so broken right now. Walden's Wait St will never be the same. Chester brought so much happiness to people driving up and down Wait St. waving and blowing kisses. He has touched so many hearts. And a lot of these hearts are broken this Valentines Day. I loved seeing him and stopping to talk to him. What a funny man he was. So much joy!
