Rina Schoonmaker of Walden, NY and a lifelong area resident passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Town of Wallkill, NY. She was 79. The daughter of Giulio and Chiara Endrizzi Viola, she was born on August 4, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. Rina and her husband, Robert owned and operated the House of Heros in Walden.
A family statement reads “Rina was loving, caring, and devoted to her family. Her wonderful spirit touched the lives of everyone she met.”
Rina is survived by a son, Michael R. Schoonmaker and his wife, Lesa of Walden; a daughter, Carol Ann Granata and her husband, Jack of Walden; sister, Connie Johannes and her husband, Robert of Largo, FL; sister-in-law, Kay Wolf of Port St. Lucie, FL; grandchildren, Michael Schoonmaker and his wife, Aimee, Brian and Scott Granata, Tammy Cook, and Meagan & Brittany Friedlander; great grandchildren, Frankie, Rozlynn and Melanie; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Beni Viola and sister, Gemma Prestipino.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012 fro 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10 am at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, Walden. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montgomery, NY
