Karen Smit of Walden, NY passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. The daughter of the late Walter J. and Mildred Campbell Yancewicz, she was born on February 22, 1949 in Newburgh, NY. She was 64 years old.
Karen was a nurse, hairdresser, wife, mother, grandmother and loving friend to all who knew her. She was a generous and sincere loving person. Karen had a strong faith in God and attended the Brick Reformed Church and the Goodwill Presbyterian Church whenever she was able. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors are her husband, Fred Smit at home; two sons, Jason Smit and his wife Stacy and Jeremy Smit and his wife Megan both of Montgomery; four brothers, Bruce, John, Coley and Lester Yancewicz ; sister, Joann Carey; three grandchildren, Jakob, Emily and Mason, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 4 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
