WILLIAM T. CAREY November 10, 1924 – January 17, 2014 William T. Carey, of Walden, NY, passed away on January 17, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 89 yrs old. The son of the late James and Louise VanDermuelen Carey he was born on November 10, 1924 in Washingtonville, NY. Bill was a life member of the Maybrook VFW Post # 2064 and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was very well known in the area as an expert parachute rigger. Bill was a proud Veteran of the United States Army receiving many decorations including the American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and was stationed throughout Europe during World War II. He was a member of the 101st and the 110th Airborne. Bill enjoyed gliders and flying. He will missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his two step-sons, Robert Coddington and wife, Linda of Florida, Charles Coddington and Barbara of Walden, NY; three stepdaughters: Georgia Ann Bohm and husband, Robert of Walden; Lottie May Dolan and husband, Stanley of Maybrook, Elizabeth “Betty” Coddington and Tom of Maybrook; also many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his companion of over 38 years, Dorothy Coddington; brothers, John and James Carey; sister, Louise “Tooty” Springer; and his son-in-law and close friend, Larry Hobencamp. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY 12586. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd at the funeral home. Rev. James VanHouten will officiate. Burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen NY. Contributions may be made to your local Veterans Association.
