Obituary of Elsie M. Gridley

Elsie M. Gridley a lifelong resident of the area passed away on Monday February 10, 2014 at Elant at Goshen. She was 96 years old. Daughter of the late Alexander and Nellie Gale Thorne, Elsie was born on February 8, 1918 in the Town of Newburgh, NY. She was the widow of the late Emmett J. Gridley. Elsie was a dedicated homemaker and retired as a cook manager for the Valley Central School District. She was a life member of the First Reformed Church, member of the Walden Sunshine Society, Walden Historical Society and the Walden Womens Garden Club. She was an active volunteer at the Montgomery Food Party and delivered meals for several years. Elsie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family meant the world to her, she in turn, meant the world to them. She will be deeply missed. Survivors include her two sons Douglas and wife Judy Gridley of Walden, NY, Thomas and wife Carol of Walden, NY; five grandchildren, David and wife Stacey, Donald, John and wife Rosemarie, Christopher and wife Megan, Mark and wife Heidi; ten great grandchildren Lauren, Daniel, Stephanie, Danielle, Gabrielle, Emma, Jake, Luke, Emily, Aidan; several nieces and nephews; and one cat Cleo. She was predeceased by husband Emmet, her brother Charles Thorne and sister Mildred Reinhard. The Family would like to thank the staff at Elant at Goshen for their constant care, devotion and love they showed Elsie for the past two years. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 13, 2014 at Gridley-Horan Funeral Home 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586 Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 14, 2014 at 11 AM at the First Reformed Church located at 70 Scofied St. Walden, New York 12586 Burial will be in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery.
