Genevieve F. “Jean” Van Cook a longtime resident of the area passed away peacefully at her residence in Montgomery, NY on February 25, 2014 with her family by her side. Jean was born on March 21, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to the late William Gluer and Genevieve Trainor and was a graduate of Midwood High School. Jean was a loving wife and mother with a passion for bowling. Jean bowled on the DiDonato and Sunshine Women League, both affiliated with the Mid-Hudson Bowling Association. Jean is survived by her husband of 48 yrs, Richard L. Van Cook of Montgomery, NY; daughter Jill L. Van Cook of NY, NY; son Kyle R. Van Cook of Stamford, CT; brother Robert F. McDonnell of Waterbury CT; sister Marylyn E. Smith of Fishkill, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gridley-Horan Funeral Home Inc. of Walden, NY. Memorial services were from 1-3 PM on Saturday March 1, 2014 at Colden Manor at Spruce Lodge 619 State Route 17K, Montgomery, NY 12549 Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to the American Lung Association National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. , NW, suite 800, Washington D.C. 20004, (202)-785-3355.
