Obituary of Shirley Weiner
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley Weiner of Walden, NY, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 29, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh, NY. The daughter of the late Moe and Jennie Kalish Nodelman, she was born on February 22, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. She was 87 years old. She was the widow of Lewis Weiner.
Shirley was devoted to her family and an avid volunteer in the community. Proof of that was her dedication to helping establish the Wallkill Valley Health Center in Walden. She was an advocate for senior citizens while working for the Office of the Aging in Goshen. She also volunteered with the Jewish Family Services, Meals on Wheels, and the Circleville Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Red Hatters and a past member of the B’nai Brith. Words that Shirley lived by: work as if you will live 100 years, and pray as if you will die tomorrow.
Survivors are her sons, Jeffrey C. Weiner of Greenwich, CT and James H. “Jamie” Weiner and his wife, Donna of Walden, NY; daughter, Jill Marilyn Gruber of Dansville, NY; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother Harold Nodelman of Boynton Beach, FL, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jack Weiner and brother, Alvin Nodelman.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4 from 12-2 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY. A memorial celebration/open house will follow at the family residence at 1132 Route 52, Walden, NY. A eulogy and sharing will take place at 3 PM at the residence.
