Margaret F. (Cunningham) Lawrence, 86 of Montgomery, NY passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018. She was born in Montgomery to the late James and Frances (Ahearn) Cunningham on December 29, 1931. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Robert E. Lawrence. Survivors are her daughters, Harley Polverelli of Cromwell, CT and Barbara (Anthony) Kurucz of Cazenovia, NY; four grandchildren: Ashley (Alex) Carlisle of West Hartford, CT, Samantha Polverelli of Newington, CT, Meaghan Kurucz and Nicholas Kurucz both of Cazenovia, NY; a great granddaughter, Amelia Carlisle and 3 four legged grandchildren that held a very special place in her heart, Ty, Ziva and Taylor. Margaret also leaves behind her brother-in-law William (Jeanne) Lawrence; brother, James Cunningham, nieces, nephews, and a couple of cherished people who were like family and whom she deeply treasured, Dianna Gilbert and Toni (Al) Mletzko. Margaret also had many dear friends and neighbors that would keep watch over her, Arlene Geiger, Shirley Felter, Lois Kelder, Joe & Lillian Spinelli, Robin and many more too numerous to mention. Her International sorority sisters of Beta Sigma Phi were a large part of her life for over 50 years and brought her so much joy. Margaret loved putting together her programs and hosting her meetings. Margaret worked for the phone company until leaving in 1961 to raise her family. She returned to the workforce once her daughters were in school. She was a teacher’s aide and assistant kindergarten teacher for 27 years at Berea Elementary, until retiring in 1994. Margaret so loved “her” children and enjoyed even second generations before her retirement. Always generous of heart and spirit, Margaret will be dearly missed by so many for the kindness and thoughtfulness she shared so unconditionally. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of ORMC Hospice and the Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Facility for their kindness, compassion and care during Margaret’s illness. You are all truly angels and appreciated more that you’ll ever really know. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 17th from 11 am to 1 pm at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM at the funeral home following the visitation. Burial will be in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in Margaret’s name be made to the O.C.
