John B. Vogelsang of Walden, NY a former Camp Director at Bear Mountain State Park, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Castle Point VAMC. The son of the late Samuel and Margaret Staubach Vogelsang, he was born on May 7, 1928 in New City, NY. John was a veteran of the Korean War receiving a Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Maybrook VFW and the Disable American Veterans.
Survivors are his wife Patricia Conklin Vogelsang at home, sons: David Vogelsang and his wife, Evette of Port Jervis, and James Vogelsang and his wife, Kathy Thorne of Hurleyville; daughter, Margaret Vogelsang and her companion, Richard Purdy of Walden; brother, Samuel Vogelsang of Rockland County; sister, Dorothy Vanderbeek of North Carolina, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Sasha.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 29th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 30th at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
