Lavina M. DeMattei also known as “Vi” or Mrs. “De” longtime resi-dent of the Town of Newburgh, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was 91 years old. She was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late Edward and Amelia Ropke Proehl on January 12, 1924.
She is survived by; son James DeMattei and wife Patty; sisters, Ruth Smith and Anne Hoebl; brother Edward Proehl; four grandchildren, Duane Myers and wife Anat from NH, Kelly Ryan of Maine, Kathleen M. French and husband Bruce of Maine, Kevin Myers of Maine; Eight great grandchildren; Three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Lavina was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her parents and daughter Kathleen Ryan.
She was a devoted member of the Christ Lutheran church in New-burgh, Town of Newburgh Golden Age Seniors and a member of The Craft Clutch.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday, February 7 at Grid-ley-Horan funeral Home 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586. A service will be held at3 pm on Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Ernst A. Mossl officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallkill Valley Ceme-tery, Rte 52 Walden, NY.
