Valere H. “Bill” Upchurch, a longtime resident of Walden, NY, passed away on Friday March 6, 2015 at Elant at Newburgh. The son of Edward F. and Garnet Haldeman Upchurch, he was born on January 3, 1925 in Phelps, NY. He was married to the late Janet Goldsworthy Upchurch. He was 90 years old. Bill proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Technician and Manager for the National Cash Register Co. for many years in Newburgh. He also worked for many years at the former CRS Cash Register Systems Co. in Newburgh,NY. Bill is survived by; sons, Jeffrey Upchurch and his wife, Kathy of Stratham, NH, and Jay Upchurch and his wife, Jill of Montgomery; daughters, Wendy Upchurch and her husband Arturo Aviles of Venice, FL, Valerie Cartwright and her husband, Jonathan of Walden, and Tracy Upchurch Kohler of Walden; eight grandchildren, Jason, Jayme, Joshua, Jonathan, Michael, Samantha, Lars and Cassandra; great grandson, Jack; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Janet; son, John L. Upchurch and his brothers and sisters. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8th from 2-5 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 5 PM following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be private in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden. Memorial contributions may be made to the John L. Upchurch Memorial Fund at the Valley Central High School, Montgomery.
