Obituary of Richard S. Degon

Dick passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s hospital with his family by his side at the age of 81. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Floyd and Irene Degon, he proudly served our country in the Marines along with many other careers. He owned his own masonry business, was a NYC fireman and later in life went to the Pensacola Florida Bible Institute. Dick had a church in Edinburgh, Illinois and Morgan City, Louisiana. Dick enjoyed watching football, always cheering for his favorite team, the NY Jets. He also was an avid golfer and in the Spring you could always find him planting in his garden. He was a skilled wood carver and found a hobby in carving walking sticks and other items. Dick married Karen Kennedy Degon in 1966 who survives him at home. He is also survived by his one son, Richard Degon & wife Jean of Montgomery, along with his four daughters, Robin Kail and husband James of Walden, Brenda Robinson and husband Guy of Glens Falls, NY, Bonnie Pietracatella and husband James of Tampa, FL, and Debbie Dohner of Staten Island. He was also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Barnhart, and daughter, Christine Knight. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard Street, Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12th at 10 AM from the Walden Baptist Church Bank St. Walden, NY. Burial will be in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden, NY.
