Obituary of Eugene S.

Eugene “Gene” Helms Sr. of Pine Bush, NY passed away on December 5th, 2015. He was 81 years old. Gen was born on January 21, 1934 in Goshen, N.Y., one of eleven children born to Robert and Christine Helms. Gene was a retired roofer, a member of Local 8 for 52 years. As a young man, he proudly served as a volunteer fireman with the Bloomingburg Fire Company. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia; his seven children, Debbie (Richard) Cromwell of Florida, Eugene II (Gloria) Helms of Pine Bush, Steve (Dale) Helms of Pine Bush, Dawn Helms of Pine Bush, Michael (Brynn) Helms of Pine Bush, Cheryl (Brian) McKay of Florida and Richard (Allison) Helms of Florida; his 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild, Marley; three sisters, Jackie Roosa, Karen (Ron) Henry, Louise (Ken) Henry and two sister-in-laws, Sarah and Linda Helms; several nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his parents; former wife Dolores Helms; six brothers, Peter, Robert and wife Virginia, Charles and wife Ann, Thomas and wife Sonia, Donald and Neil, sister Melissa and grandson, Justin Helms. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 15, 2015 from 12-4 pm at Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc. 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586. Gene was a resident at Montgomery Nursing Home for 18 months where he was loved and cared for as family. On Gene’s behalf, his wife Patricia would like to thank all the residents, staff and administration for all the wonderful and loving care. She thanks you all from the bottom of her heart.
