Obituary of V. James Holbert

V. James “Jim” Holbert, entrepreneur and founder of Holbert’s Restaurant and Catering, died on Wednesday, February 10,2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. Jim was born on September 6, 1936, in Tyler Hill, PA, the youngest child of the late Lena and Rennie O. Holbert. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Carol Cocks Holbert of Montgomery, his daughters Deborah Campbell of Milford, DE and Susan Crocker and husband, Jerry of Key West, FL; daughter-in-law Kathleen Holbert VanOrden of Walden, grandchildren David Campbell and wife, Anne, Steven Campbell and wife, Oksana, Julie Holbert, Joshua Crocker, Joseph Crocker, one precious great grandchild, Emma Campbell and many other extended family members. Jim was the last of 11 siblings. He was predeceased by his son, James N. Holbert, who died in 1988, his sisters Kathryn Eggleton, Dorothy Price, Laura Brown, and Lillian Wixon, and his brothers Elmer, William, Walter, Rennie, Forrest and Richard Holbert. Jim remained an honorary member of the Circleville Fire Department and Orange Hose of Walden. He was a member of the Middletown Elks 1097. Jim was a quiet, reserved and hardworking man who loved his family, friends and business. We wish to thank all of the physicians, nurses, and caregivers for their many years of professional care and love. A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 15 Walnut Street, Walden, NY on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Montgomery Fire Dept. (136 Ward Street, Montgomery, NY 12549) who came to Jim’s aid on numerous occasions and for which his family is forever grateful.
