Donald R. Wood of Walden, NY passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Sapphire @ Newburgh Nursing Home, Newburgh, NY. The son of the late John and Margaret Doll Wood, he was born on August 2, 1924 in Cornwall, NY. He was 94 years old. He was a self-employed general contractor. Donald was a WWII Navy veteran having served 4 years in the Pacific and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. In his youth, he was very active in athletics.
Survivors are his son, John R. Wood and his wife, Pam of Cornwall and daughter, Deborah R. Wood of Cornwall; grandson Craig R. Wood and granddaughters, Christine Sipko, Jessica R. Wood and Jenna R. Wood; great grandchildren, Matthew, Sage and William; nieces and nephews including Dennis Wood and his wife, Maureen. He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Evans, brothers, Mahlon, Howard and John, and his longtime companion, Irene Marone.
A visitation will be held from 12-1 PM on Friday, October 26th at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39; Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM at the funeral home following the visitation. Burial will be in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
