Allen William Abrahams of Maybrook, passed away on June 14, 2016. The son of Allen Oscar and Julia Canade Abrahams, he was born on March 5, 1923 in Maybrook, NY. Allen married the love of his live, Rosemarie Fayo and spent 63 years together.
Along with his wife, Rosemarie, he is survived by his son, Allen Michael and his wife, Stephanie; daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Kevin; and granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth and Ashley Rose.
Allen was a WWII veteran serving as a Fighter Pilot (C.B.I. Theater) in the 6th Fighter Squad, in the First Air Commando Group. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2064 and the American Legion. He was well known as Maybook’s Chief of Police and Superintendent of Public Works, positions he served for over 31 years. He also served on the Village of Maybrook Planning Board for 30 years. Allen was recently recognized for his service in the Maybrook Fire Department for 71+ years. He was elected an Orange County Legislator serving for five years and a Town of Montgomery Councilman serving for 17 years.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 17th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, June 18th at the Church of the Assumption, Maybrook. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montgomery.
