Obituary of Linda J. Ruger

Linda J. Ruger of Montgomery, NY and Bellview, FL, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Town of Wallkill, NY. The daughter of the late Horace and Jane Kelly Halstead, she was born on January 10, 1950 in Cornwall, NY. She was 66 years old. She was a second mother to many children for whom she babysat before returning to college to obtain her degree. Linda was a clinical laboratory technologist at ORMC retiring in January 2015. She was also a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and a member of the Vestry. Special thanks to the entire ORMC laboratory staff and to all the employees of 2 North, who always made mom’s stays so comfortable and as close to home as we could get. Thank you to Dr. Stewart for his dedication to his patients’ best interest. A special thank you to Scott Batulis, CEO, Joanne Ritter-Teitel, CNO and Sharon Geidel, nurse director for making mom’s first stay on 2 North extra special. Mom was a huge believer in her local hospital and it is great that she was able to experience such loving, caring and compassionate health care close to home. The love and support from every employee that knew her has been so touching and appreciated. Linda is survived by her husband, William H. Ruger, Sr. at home; son, William H. Ruger, Jr. and his wife Lisa; daughters: Lynn Chormanski and her husband, Tim, and Brenda Duff and her husband, David; sisters: Rose Hoffman and Darlene Esposito; grandchildren: Heather Ruger, William Ruger III, Chris Ruger and wife, Alexis, Kailyn and Kasey Duff and Ryan Chormanski; great granddaughter, Aryana Ruger; several nieces and nephews, cousins and close dear friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Horace Halstead and Roger Addis, sister, Loraine Decker and granddaughter, Kimberly. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 15th at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Walden, NY. Burial will be in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
