Obituary of Joseph F. DeGroodt

Joseph F. DeGroodt of Wallkill, NY, former owner of Wallkill Paving, passed away at home on Monday, November 7, 2016. The son of the late Myron and Leona Kimback DeGroodt, he was born on February 20, 1944 in Walden, NY. He was 72 years old. Joseph proudly served in the US Army. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, his dog,” Big Boy”, his motorcycle and fishing. His wish was to be with his wife, the late Brenda DeGroodt. Survivors are his sons: Joseph E. DeGroodt and his significant other, Katrina Powers of Wallkill and Jonathan DeGroodt and his wife, Kim of Wallkill; daughter, Christine DeGroodt-Holstrom and her husband Erik of Pine Bush; brothers: LeRoy DeGroodt of Walden and Edward DeGroodt of Walden; sisters, Katherine Wood of Walden and Helen Schoonmaker of Walden; grandchildren: Andrew, Tyler, Joe and Ali; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Myron DeGroodt. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Monday, November 14th at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Funeral services will begin at 8 PM following the visitation. Cremation was in the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. His cremains will be buried in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ulster County Hospice or the Humane Society of Middletown.
