Mike, We've been through a lot together in our lives. 57 years of Brotherhood! I will never forget the last time I seen you alive in your hospital bed staring me in my eyes silently screaming in pain, silently saying Gary get me out of here. I silently told you, "Mike I can't, it is God's will."
Sometime ago I was happy as a lark But now I go for walks To the movies, maybe to the park And have a seat on the same old bench To watch The Children Play You know, tomorrow is their future But to me just another day They all gather around me They seem to know my name We laugh, tell a few jokes But it still doesn't ease my pain Well, I know I can't hide from a memory Though day after day I've tried I keep saying he will be back But today again I lied Oh, I see Mike's face everywhere I go On the street and even at the picture show Have you seen him? Tell me, have you seen him? Oh, I hear his voice as the cold winds blow In the sweet music on my radio Have you seen him? Tell me, have you seen him? Why, oh why Did he have to leave and go away I've been used to having someone to lean on And I'm lost Man, I'm lost Oh Mike left his smile mindful But left that break within my heart Have you seen him? Tell me have you seen him? As another day comes to an end I'm looking for a letter or something Anything that Mike would send.
I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom, for me and for you And I think to myself What a Wonderful World I see skies of blue, and clouds of white The bright blessed days, dark sacred nights And I think to myself What a Wonderful World The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They're really saying I love you Rest in Peace Mike Hunger. My treasured thoughts will forever remain... Comrade, Gary lease

Dear Mike, we were destined to meet and share your beautiful daughter, Rebecca. Who would’ve thought teaching in PS 76 and saying hello to this hero police officer, that many years later we would meet again? But meet we did at Rebecca’s first teaching job the summer of 2006 in Harrison. How joyful it was to discover that we were connected by our days working in the Bronx. Your jokes, hugs and great big smile filled the classroom that day and continued each time we met…(lunch and/or dinner of course)!!! You often thanked me for taking care and watching over Rebecca. But it was MY great honor to give back to you, a HERO NYPD police officer, and a blessing in having Rebecca and you and Anne in my life. Thank you, Mike, for all the laughter. I know you are now surrounded by angels and your loved ones sharing jokes and stories. Rest In Peace, my friend. ♥️
Love, Patricia

Whether a family member, coworker, long time friend or casual acquaintance, reading the tributes here all describe the same person with a beautiful personality that we were all blessed to share time with. Mike epitomized greatness and although my connection with him was brief by most standards, he certainly left an impression that will never let me forget him. Rest easy my friend.

I am going to miss you very much! I will miss talking to you and hearing your voice and your messages. I will
miss hearing, "this is your big brother calling".
I will especially miss you telling me funny stories about when we were kids growing up together in Brooklyn and New Windsor NY. We had the best childhood life and our home was so full of warmth, love, and many laughs. You were truly the best big brother and I will never forget you always buying me Archie comic books and driving me wherever I needed to go and how freaking funny you would be at the McDonalds drive through window!! I will never forget all of our fun family adventures and praying for Snow Days from school together. I will love you always and forever! Rest in peace and no longer be in pain. I will be rooting non stop for the METS
to go all the way this season for you!!! Love your sister Iris

I’m so sorry for your loss. And my Family and I send our Deepest Condolences and Prayers. I came on the job with Mike and we were at the 49pct our whole careers. He was very Loyal and a very good person who would help anyone.
We all use to love his imitations of Florence(Flo), who was our 124 person(would type complaint reports as well as others). We would be laughing hysterically as he would keep a straight face and was a perfect match for Flo. We will miss him. Love and Best from Jim and Doris Clifford and Family.

I have been blessed to have Uncle Mikey as a part of my life. My family's thoughts and prayers are with all those that morn.
As I sit here and write this, with tears in my eyes, I take a deep breath and remember you are at peace now. You have always been so strong, so funny, and so kind. Growing up with you in my life and being able to do so much with you has given me such fond memories which I'll be able to cherish forever. From trips to Blockbuster video during sleepovers with Becca, and the 'I-III-III-III-III' during the Disney World trip...haha, to da-da-da-da-da da- da-da-da-da da-da-da-da-da-da...if you know you know ;) , and family trips down to NYC during the holiday's. I can recall so vividly the jokes, love, and fun I always had with you.
I'm sorry I couldn't come, but, maybe, take one of those walks with Muffin we did together and smile; remembering how loved you are <3
Love you forever Uncle Mickey. May you rest in peace.

You will forever be in my heart Uncle Mikey! Eeeeeeee I will always remember how you always made everyone laugh. Annie pulling your pud song, Muffin barking as you sang doggie in the window and all your stories of your time as a cop. Our adventure white water rafting where we would watch the tape over and over when we came to your house and would just laugh and laugh. Your service as a cop and remember seeing you in the tv during 911. You had a personality a mile wide. Until I see you again may the Lord watch over all the family and friends grieving here behind for now and give them strength to overcome.

Dear Mike, you are at peace now. We will always have memories of when you were the mad sheet rocker, story telling of your police encounters with the youth in NYC asking them about American history, laughing about the Mets theme song variations, talking about the good times at parties and restaurants. These and many other times will live on in our memory of Mike. We offer condolences to all in this time. We pray to God Father through and in Jesus the Christ we pray in the words of our Lord and Savior:
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. - John 14:27

Dearest Mike, You will be greatly missed. We have shared so many memories. The first and foremost was your ability to always joke and make people laugh; i.e. "go home and make some soup you old bag"; or you can skip school today if you know the capital of New York and the answer you received was "DOWNTOWN"! Or on our trip to see Nancy when she gave birth to Brian, "Open the window Al you are peelin' the paint off the car"!!!!! Of course, my favorite was the little diddy you made up for Anne that you would sing and we would all crack up (Annie ............ do dah do dah!!!!).
Your knowledge of baseball stats especially dealing with the Mets and their team players was extraordinary. I remember you telling the Atlanta Braves what they could do with their Indian chop.
Then there were the tales (which were true, so not tales at all) about the magical windows in one of your cars that worked on their own. Opening and shutting like they were alive. I would crack up as you said how you would be driving to work on the Palisades and there went the windows up and down they go.
I also remember that you, Anne, and Rebecca came to visit us in North Carolina. I was so thrilled you guys were able to do that and Kim was thrilled you took her to Disney with you guys. Let's not forget Mike all the Sheetrock you hung up at the log house. It was amazing how you could joke as you swung the hammer hoping to hit the nail (lol).
The tales, stories, and memories could go on and on. So for now my beloved brother-in-law I say good-bye and rest in peace. I will miss you.
