John P. “Jack” Gayton Sr. of Walden passed away on December 23, 2023 at Garnet Medical Center. He was 76 years old. He was born on May 25, 1947 to the late William and Helen Gervais Gayton in Cornwall, NY. He married the late Carol Gallagher Gayton. Jack was a school bus driver for First Student for several years in Wallkill, NY. He was a member of the Black Rock Fish & Game Club and was an active shop steward for his union. Jack was very proud of his Cornwall Dragons where he attended school, but was most proud of his three granddaughters. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Jack is survived by his son, John "Jack" Gayton and wife Kellie of Montgomery; granddaughters, Taylor Gayton, Lindsey Gayton and Cameron Gayton. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and William Gayton and sister Dolores Knoerzer. A visitation will be held on Saturday December 30, 2023 from 10 AM -12 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc. 39 Orchard St. Walden. Graveside Services will follow the visitation at 1 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 2 Cemetery Road Cornwall, NY 12518.
