Doris Capwell, 94, of Coldenham, New York passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023.

Doris was born on November 11, 1929 in Port Jervis, New York. She was the daughter of the late Gladys and Nicholas Zwart, Sr. She grew up on her parent’s dairy farm in Wallkill, New York. On January 1, 1947, she married the love of her life, Howard Capwell; he passed away on June 16, 1988. Together they raised 5 sons in Coldenham, New York.

Doris had a love for animals and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the Catskills Game Farm every summer when her children were young. She was an avid bowler. Bowling several times a week, on many leagues throughout the years and continued to bowl up till she was 91 years old.

Doris leaves behind a large, loving family. Her 5 sons and their spouses: Bruce and Sandra Capwell of Conway, SC; Stephen and Ruth Capwell of Hillsborough, NJ; Craig and Kim Capwell of Newburgh, NY; Dean and Kelly Capwell of Walden, NY; and Scott and Mary Joan Capwell of Campbell Hall, NY. A sister Brenda and husband Wayne Holman of Sarasota, FL, brother Dennis Zwart of Wallkill, NY. Fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, twenty great- grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

Doris is predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Gladys Zwart, husband Howard Capwell, daughter-in-law Theresa Capwell, grandson Ryan Capwell, brother Nicholas Zwart, Jr., and two sisters-in-laws Elise and Cheryl Zwart.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. A burial will follow at the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden, NY.
