John P. Matthews of New York, NY passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The son of the late Thomas Matthews and Jane Betz Matthews, he was born on May 1, 1978. He was 45 years old.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Matthews, of Walden, NY; his sister, Rita Matthews of Walden, NY; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins. John was a graduate of Valley Central High School in Montgomery, NY and SUNY Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead, NY. John will be remembered for his many wonderful qualities, but mostly for his unfailing ability to make you laugh.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, October 5th at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, 42 Walnut St., Walden, NY on Friday, October 6th at 11:30 am. An interment of ashes will occur at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
