William Alfred Smith Sr., of Wallkill passed away at his home on January 5, 2018. He was 84. The son of the late Gordon A and Ethel E. Caston Smith. William was born on January 1, 1934 in Gardiner, NY. He was married to Bertha L. Stedner for over 30 yrs. William honorably served his country during the Korean War in the Marine Corps. He was an avid gardener. William enjoyed spending time outdoors and had an endless love for animals. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. William is survived by his wife Bertha at home; son, William A. Smith Jr. (Gayle) of Walden; daughters, Ellen M. Yzquierdo (Ralph) of Walden, Beverly S. Smith of Walden ; step-son, Donald A. Yaw of Madisonville, Tenn.; step-daughters, Sandra A. Casper (Rick) of Modena, Deborah A. Yaw of Philadelphia, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Eugene, Okie, Leroy, Virginia, Olga “Pat” and Arlene. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 10, 2018 from 11-1 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc. 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM following the visitation. Burial Brunswick Rural Cemetery in Wallkill, NY. Contributions may be made in William’s name to the Walden Humane Society 2489 Albany Post road, Walden, NY 12586 or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan 800 Stony Brook Ct. Newburgh, NY 12550.
