Obituary of Merida H. Varwig

Merida H. Varwig, age 87 of Maybrook, NY passed away on April 7, 2020 at home. The daughter of the late Perry and Bessie Ellen Baird Harrington, she was born on February 2, 1933 in Goshen, NY. Merida was married to the late Justice H. Varwig. Merida was a loving mother and grandmother. She worked as a Back-Tap Assignor for the New York Telephone Co. in Newburgh for 32 years. She also worked at the Town of Montgomery Town Hall for many years. Merida was a member of the Maybrook VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Pine Bush Quilters, Maybrook Seniors, and the First Presbyterian Church of Hamptonburgh. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her son, Justice D. Varwig of Maybrook, NY; daughter, Debra L. Murray and her husband, John, of Schenectady, NY; sister, Shirley Hofheinz of Middletown, NY; brother, Blaine Harrington of Maybrook, NY; grandchildren, Alicia Murray, Sean (Chelsea) Murray and Justin Murray, all of Schenectady, NY; nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial in the Washingtonville Cemetery were held privately. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Merida’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Hamptonburgh or the animal charity/cause of one’s choosing.
