Margaret “Peggy” Horton Delessio passed away at Westchester Medical Center on Tuesday February 3, 2026. The daughter of Lester and Ann Horton, she was born during a winter storm on December 4, 1938. Due to the storm, she was delivered at her family home on the Sarah Wells Trail by Maybrook’s Dr. Rakov.
She met the love of her life, Carmen “Nooch” Delessio, while taking her younger brother Chuck to his barbershop on Tower Avenue in Maybrook. They were married on May 27, 1962.
Peggy grew up on a dairy farm, worked at a bank in Goshen, and a stock office in Middletown. She retired after a long career working at Orange County Community College where she helped countless nursing students with their loans.
The greatest joy in her life came from the time she spent with her family - especially her grandchildren. She was instrumental in their lives. Her second greatest joy was reading a book on the porch of her home in Maybrook.
The family would like to thank her close friend Kathy, Jennifer and her wonderful family, and Dr. Rametta. Special appreciation to her in-laws who called and visited often.
Peggy is survived by her sons: Carmen Delessio of New York, NY and Joseph Delessio (AnnMarie) of Olive Bridge, NY; daughter, Ann VanDemark (Randy) of Pine Bush; brother: Charles (Chuck) Horton (Teresa) of Florida, NY; brothers-in law John and Phil De Lessio; Sisters in Law: Teresa Jardine and Mary De Lessio; grandchildren: Stacy, Kelly, Eva, Erin, Andie, Natalie, Henry, Audrey and Adeline; great grandchildren: Adalyn, Sophia, Kayden and Aubree, Colter Ryan; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Martha (Mart) and daughter-in-law, Amy
