Donald Brett Lennon Obituary

Donald Brett Lennon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 4, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born to the late Francis and Frances Lennon, Donald lived a life defined by love, dedication, and quiet strength. He shared 47 wonderful years with his devoted wife, Theresa, and together they raised three children who were the pride of his life: Michele Raffanello (Nolan), Marisa Greenway (Justin), and Matthew Lennon (Danielle). His joy only grew with the arrival of his cherished grandchildren — Liam, Easton, Dylan, Paige, Colin, and Nicholas — who will forever remember their “Grandpa” for his warmth, laughter, and gentle heart.

He is also survived by his brother Charles “Chuck “ Lennon (Stephanie), sister Claire Christy, sisters- and brothers-in-law Cathy Smallman (Art), Ann Marie Santos, and Michael McDonnell (Randi), as well as many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Robert Lennon.

Donald was a proud and hardworking member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 30, where he dedicated 35 years as a Lead Engineer before continuing his career at LEGOLAND after retirement — a testament to his tireless work ethic and kind spirit.

A lifelong sports fan, he found joy in cheering for his favorite teams — the New York Yankees, Notre Dame football, the New York Giants, Rangers, and Knicks. When not watching a game, Donald could often be found with a good book or music playing in the distance. He had a deep appreciation for animals and wildlife, reflecting his compassionate nature and respect for all living things.

Above all, Donald will be remembered for his love — for his family, his friends, and the life he built with them. His humor, generosity, and steadfast heart will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at Gridley-Horan Funeral Home 39 Orchard Street Walden, NY 12586 on Friday, November 7, with visitation from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The funeral mass will be held at Holy Name of Mary Church 89 Union Street Montgomery, NY 12549 on Saturday, November 8, at 10am. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Railroad Avenue, Montgomery, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to United Kids, a program of United Hospice (https://unitedhospiceinc.org/donation/). Please make sure you select United Kids on the donation page.
