Charles Edward Hoffman Obituary

Charles Edward Hoffman Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Bayshore Medical Center, Holmdel, New Jersey. He was born on January 10, 1939, in Goshen, New York to his beloved parents, Charles Edward Sr. and Marguerite (Scott) Hoffman.


Charles graduated from Fort Schuyler Merchant Marine Academy in 1960 and entered the U.S. Navy, where he ended up in the Far East. After his active-duty discharge from the Navy, he went on to sail for Military Sealift Command (MSC) - Far East based in Yokohama, Japan, where he then moved on to Marine Transport Specialist and continued to move up the ranks. While in Yokohama, Charles met and later married the love of his life, Michiko Yamamoto in 1970. In 1976, he came back to the U.S. with his family and worked at MSC - Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In 1982, he took a promotion to MSC - Bayonne and moved his family to Hazlet, NJ and retired in 1997. Throughout his professional career, he maintained his Ready Reserve status with the U.S. Navy until 1991, retiring with the rank of Captain.


Charles is predeceased by his parents, Charles Edward Sr. and Marguerite (Scott) Hoffman and a sister, Sandra Hoffman. He is survived by his loving daughter, Mariko Hoffman, his caring sister, Phyllis Iorlano and his cherished granddaughters, Chloe, Jan and Olivia. Charles was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and grandfather. He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.


Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730 is entrusted with Charles’ arrangements. A visitation for Charles will be held at his home, 2061 Florence Avenue, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc.,39 Orchard Street, Walden, New York 12586. His interment will follow at 1:00PM at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, 105-109 Railroad Avenue, Montgomery, New York 12549.
