Maria Tandoi of Walden passed away peacefully at home with her family on July 10, 2025 at the age of 101 years old. She was born November 6, 1923 in Corato, Bari Italy to the late Antonio Gallo and Julia (Ardito) Gallo. Maria was married to the late Francesco (Frank) Tandoi. Maria and her husband Frank owned and operated Montgomery Sportswear on Barron Road in Montgomery, NY. They were known for the manufacturing of London Fog Raincoats and other types of clothing.

Family was everything to Maria. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family. Her children Victoria (Gary) Kurtz and Frank Tandoi and her grandchildren David Kurtz (Sharon), Anthony Kurtz (Stacey), and Steven Tandoi. Even more importantly she lived for her great grandchildren Shannon (Will) Hills, Shaunna (Ryan) Kurtz, Jessica Kurtz, Justin Kurtz, and Addison Kurtz, but she loved being a great great grandmother to Connor. Her nieces and nephews were very important to her also.

Maria was always ready to help any family member in need.

If a niece needed help with graduation parties or a nephew needed help in Connecticut she would pack her bags and go. When her son needed help in California she would go for months at a time to take care of her grandson.

Maria loved to cook and everyone who knew her or ate her food knew she was amazing in the kitchen. However her best qualities were her smile, her warmth, ability to listen, and provide comfort. Also she never let life’s difficulties get the better of her.

Maria looked at life this way “Never look at a glass half empty, but look at the glass half full”

Maria and her family are so thankful for the love and support she received from the wonderful caregivers from Hospice Orange and Sullivan. We also want to thank her Eucharist Ministers from Most Precious Blood Church who were dedicated to her spiritual being.

Maria was predeceased by her sister Louise Scattamaccia and brother, Dominick.

Contributions may be made to either Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 16, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc. 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 17, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Most Precious Blood Church, 42 Walnut Street Walden, NY 12586

Burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery 104 Cottage Street Middletown, NY 10940.
