Laurie A. Thew of Maybrook, NY passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation. She was 75. Laurie was born on July 15, 1949 to the late John Dawson and Helen Lennon in Brooklyn, NY.
Laurie worked for many years as a Paraprofessional at Maybrook Elementary School and as a Library Clerk for the George C. Bullis Memorial Library. She also volunteered her time over the years with Maybrook’s Scout Troop 236 & Marching Band and cherished her time serving with her fellow Catholic Daughters of America at the Assumption Parish.
Laurie will be remembered for her warm smile, genuine laugh, and fantastic sense of humor. Life wasn’t always easy, but the joy she carried in her heart was unrelenting and a source of inspiration to all her loved ones. She will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Adam Hughes; brother, John Dawson; and her husband, her “sweetheart”, Gordon Thew. Laurie is survived by her loving daughter, Colleen Zubrycki (Chris); brother, Steve Dawson (Irene); sister, Barbara Polakowski (Ray); along with many cherished extended family members. She was blessed in joining Gordon’s family and sharing in the joy of being a mother to Christina Myruski (Steven); Jacquelyn Winstedt (Michael); and Gregory Thew (Cassandra); and grandmother to Sarah, Nicholas, Brayden, Evan, Noah, Ashton, and Adelynn.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Most Precious Blood Church, 42 Walnut Street, Walden, NY 12586.
Burial of her ashes will follow in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Rte 52, Walden, NY.
In-lieu of flowers, and in honor of Laurie’s devotion and love of her work in the library, memorial contributions may be made to Josephine-Louise Public Library, 5 Scofield St, Walden, NY 12586.
