Vernon Thomas Spencer Obituary

Vernon "Butch" Thomas Spencer passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on February 20, 2025. He was 85. Butch was born on March 5, 1939 in Liberty, NY to the late Thomas Spencer and Arvila "Toby" Davenport. He proudly served his country in the United Sates Marine Corps. He retired later as a Master Sargeant in the Army Reserves. Butch was the owner of Spencer and Sons Masonry in Walden, NY. He was Past Commander of the Walden VFW Post and member of Walden Fire Department/ Hook and Ladder Fire Co. for over 50 years. The family would like to thank Maurice Alisse and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan for their dedication and kindness.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of almost 66 yrs, Selena "Sally" Spencer at home; daughter, Jacqueline R. Spencer of Walden; sister, Carol Stuhmer of Walden; grandchildren, Kayla Spencer, Jeffery Spencer Jr., Alexis Rodriguez and Justin Medina; great grandchildren, Zoey Spencer and Amaya Ferrell; nephew, Richard Stuhmer; nieces, Roxsann Petty and Ronda O ‘Donnell.

He was predeceased by his parents; son, Jeffery Spencer and brother, Richard Spencer.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025 from 2-5 PM at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc. 39 Orchard St. Walden, NY 12586.

A prayer service will be held at 5 PM following the visitation at the funeral home.

Cremation and burial of ashes will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Butch's name to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties 800 Stony Brook Court Newburgh, NY 12550.
